How to Migrate Agents to a New AI Model

Learn how Company Admins and Owners can bulk-migrate all agents from one AI model/provider to another directly from Admin Settings.

How to Migrate Agents to a New AI Model

AI providers regularly deprecate models, release improved versions, and change their pricing structures. When this happens, manually updating every agent in your workspace one by one is time-consuming and error-prone — especially if your organization has dozens or hundreds of agents configured across different teams.

elvex's Model Migration tool solves this problem by letting Company Admins and Owners bulk-migrate all agents from one AI model to another in a single operation, with a full preview of what will change before anything is applied.

You might need to migrate agents when:

  • An AI provider announces that a model you rely on is being deprecated and will stop accepting requests

  • A new model version is released and you want all agents to benefit from its improvements

  • Your organization is consolidating providers to reduce costs or simplify API key management

  • You're rotating API keys and need to move agents to a newly configured provider connection

Before You Begin

  • You must have a Company Admin or Owner role to access Model Migration

  • The destination provider must already be configured in your elvex workspace. If you haven't added it yet, go to Settings → AI Providers and add it before proceeding

  • Review any agents that have model-specific rules or configurations — while migration updates the model assignment, agent rules and instructions are not changed automatically

How to Migrate Agents to a New AI Model

  1. Navigate to Settings in the left-hand sidebar

  2. Select AI Agents from the Settings menu

  3. Click Model Migration to open the migration tool

  4. Under Source, select the provider and model you want to migrate away from

  5. Under Destination, select the provider and model you want to migrate your agents to

  6. Click Preview to see a list of all agents that will be affected — review this carefully

  7. When satisfied with the preview, click Apply Migration to update all listed agents to the new model

Once applied, all affected agents will immediately begin using the destination model for new conversations.

Reviewing Migration History

The Model Migration page includes a History table showing a log of all past migrations in your workspace. Each entry includes the source and destination model, the date and time applied, the admin who performed it, and the number of agents affected.

Common Questions

Will migrating agents affect conversations already in progress?

No. Migration only affects new conversations started after the migration is applied. Any conversation already open will continue using the model it was started with.

What if I only want to migrate some agents, not all of them?

The Model Migration tool migrates all agents currently using the selected source model. To update specific agents only, navigate to each agent individually via the Agents page and update the model in that agent's settings.

What if the destination provider isn't available in the dropdown?

The destination provider must be configured in your workspace before it appears as an option. Go to Settings → AI Providers to add and configure the provider, then return to Model Migration.
