📌 This article is for users of elvex 2.0. Find out which version you're using.
Why Thread Organization Matters
Threads in elvex are more than just chat logs; they're valuable knowledge assets that contain context, insights, and work progress. As your usage grows, you'll accumulate dozens or even hundreds of threads. Without proper organization, finding specific information or continuing previous work may become increasingly difficult. The good news: in elvex 2.0, threads can become first-class resources by pinning them to Spaces, making them part of your team's shared knowledge foundation.
Thread Naming
Why Name Your Threads?
By default, elvex generates thread titles based on your initial messages, but these auto-generated names often don't reflect the thread's true purpose or outcome. Naming threads serves several important purposes:
Improved Findability: A descriptive name like "Q3 Marketing Campaign Analysis" is much easier to locate than an auto-generated title like "Help me analyze this data."
Context Preservation: Good names capture the essence of what was discussed, making it easier to return to the thread's content months later.
Professional Organization: When sharing threads with colleagues or pinning them to a Space, clear names make collaboration more efficient.
How to Name a Thread
Click the three-dot menu on the thread in your sidebar.
Select Rename.
Thread Cloning
Why Clone Threads?
Thread cloning creates a duplicate of an existing thread, preserving the context and history while allowing you to explore different directions. This is useful for:
Scenario Exploration: Explore "what if" approaches without losing your original thread.
Collaboration Starting Points: Clone a well-developed thread to share with team members as a starting point for their own exploration.
Version Control: Before making significant changes to a valuable thread, clone it to preserve the original state.
When to Clone vs. Start Fresh
Clone when:
You want to explore alternative approaches to the same problem
You've built up valuable context that would be time-consuming to recreate
You want to preserve a "golden" thread while experimenting
Start fresh when:
You're moving to a completely different topic
The existing context might confuse or bias the new direction
You want clean, focused results
The original thread has become too long or complex
How to Clone
Click the three-dot menu on the thread in your sidebar.
Select Duplicate thread.
Thread Deletion
Why Delete Threads?
Reduce Clutter: Keep your workspace organized by removing test threads or quick queries that are no longer relevant.
Maintain Focus: Ensure only relevant, high-quality threads remain in your history.
Protect Privacy: Permanently remove threads that may contain sensitive information that should no longer be stored.
How to Delete a Thread
Click the three-dot menu on the thread in your sidebar.
Select Delete thread.
Thread Sharing
Why Share Threads?
Knowledge Transfer: Share successful threads to help colleagues learn effective approaches.
Quality Assurance: Share threads for review, feedback, or validation of results.
Training and Onboarding: Use exemplary threads as training materials for new team members.
Transparency: Share decision-making processes and reasoning with stakeholders.
Sharing vs. Pinning
In elvex 2.0, you have two ways to make a thread available to others:
Share a thread with specific people; they receive access to view or contribute to that thread.
Pin a thread to a Space; it becomes a shared resource that flows automatically into every future conversation in that Space, available to all Space members without them needing to find or attach it manually.
Pinning is the more powerful option for ongoing team work; sharing is better for one-off collaboration or review.
How to Share a Thread
Click the three-dot menu on the thread.
Select Share.
Choose recipients and set their permissions (view only or view and edit).
Confirm the share.
How to Share a Thread with Support
Open the thread you want to share with support.
Click the share icon in the thread interface.
In the share dialog, add [email protected].
Set permissions:
Select Can view and edit to allow the support team to interact with the thread and test solutions.
Select Can view if you only want the support team to review it.
Click Share to confirm.
The elvex support team will receive access to your thread and can begin investigating your issue.
