What are tags and how do I use them?

As your team creates more agents and datasources in elvex, finding the right resource becomes increasingly difficult. Tags solve this problem by providing a centralized, administrator-managed system for categorizing agents and datasources.

How tags work

Tags are labels that can be applied to agents and datasources to make them easier to find and organize. As a company administrator, you create and manage the available tags that your entire team can use. This ensures consistent categorization across your organization.

You might create tags based on:

  • Departments - Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations

  • Use cases - Customer Support, Data Analysis, Content Creation, Reporting

  • Data sensitivity - Public, Internal, Confidential

  • Project names - Q1 Initiative, Product Launch, Customer Onboarding

  • Functions - Research, Writing, Analysis, Automation

Once you've created tags, anyone who creates an agent or datasource can assign one tag to their resource, making it discoverable by others who filter or search by that category.

Creating and managing tags (Administrators)

Only company administrators can create and manage tags. This centralized control ensures your organization maintains a consistent taxonomy as your elvex usage grows.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Tags to access the tag management screen

  2. Click Create Tag to add a new tag to your organization's available tags

  3. Give your tag a clear, descriptive name that your team will recognize

  4. Save the tag to make it available for team members to assign to their agents and datasources

Note: elvex includes default tags in all accounts to help you get started. You can modify or remove these to match your organization's needs.

Assigning tags to agents and datasources

Once administrators have created tags, any team member who creates an agent or datasource can assign a tag to their resource:

  1. When creating or editing an agent or datasource, look for the Tag field

  2. Select one tag from the available options that best categorizes your resource

  3. Save your changes

The tag will now appear with your agent or datasource, making it easier for others to find when they filter or browse resources.

Current limitation: You can currently assign only one tag per agent or datasource. Choose the tag that best represents the primary purpose or category of your resource.

Finding tagged resources

Team members can use tags to quickly filter and find the agents or datasources they need:

  • Browse agents or datasources and filter by specific tags

  • Identify resources by department, use case, or other categories at a glance

  • Discover relevant resources created by other team members

Who can assign tags to agents and datasources?
Anyone who creates an agent or datasource can assign a tag to their resource from the available options.

Best practices for tag management

Start with broad categories - Begin with high-level tags like departments or major use cases before creating more specific ones.

Keep tag names clear and consistent - Use naming conventions that everyone on your team will understand and search for.

Review and refine regularly - As your team's needs evolve, periodically review your tags to ensure they still serve your organization's structure.

Communicate tag strategy - Share your tagging system with your team so everyone understands which tags to use for different types of resources.

Note: Default tags have been added to all accounts.
