How to Create Flows Using the AI Flow Builder

Overview

The AI Flow Builder helps you create flows through a conversational interface. Instead of manually configuring each step, you describe what you want to accomplish, and the AI suggests a complete flow that you can automatically build and customize.

This guide shows you how to use the AI Flow Builder to create a new flow from start to finish.

Step 1: Open the AI Flow Builder

Look for the AI Flow Builder button in the top right corner of the page. It displays the elvex logo that looks like a face.

Click the button to open the conversational sidebar.

Step 2: Describe your workflow

In the conversational sidebar, describe the workflow you want to build. Be as specific as possible about:

  • What task you want to automate

  • What inputs the flow should accept

  • What outputs you expect

  • Any specific steps or tools you need

Example:
"I want to create a flow that takes a company name as input, researches the company online, analyzes their business model, and outputs a competitive analysis report."

Step 3: Answer follow-up questions

The AI will ask clarifying questions to better understand your needs. These questions help ensure the suggested flow matches your requirements.

Answer each question thoughtfully. The more detail you provide, the better the AI can tailor the flow to your needs.

Tip: Provide example inputs and outputs when asked. This helps the AI understand exactly what you're trying to accomplish and creates a more accurate flow.

Step 4: Review the suggested flow

After gathering information, the AI will suggest a complete flow structure. Review the suggestion carefully:

  • Check that all necessary steps are included

  • Verify the sequence makes sense for your workflow

  • Ensure the inputs and outputs match your expectations

If something isn't quite right, ask the AI to modify the suggestion. You can request changes like:

  • "Add a step to validate the input before processing"

  • "Change the analysis step to focus on financial metrics"

  • "Split the research step into two separate steps"

Step 5: Build the flow

Once you're satisfied with the suggested flow, click the button to automatically build it.

The AI will create the complete flow with all steps, connections, and configurations based on your conversation.

Step 6: Test and refine

After the flow is built:

  1. Click Test Flow to run it with sample inputs

  2. Review the output from each step

  3. Edit any steps that need adjustment

You can modify the flow just like any manually-built flow. Click on individual steps to adjust instructions, change tools, or update configurations.

Tips for success

  • Be specific: The more detail you provide about your workflow, the better the AI can build it

  • Provide examples: Share example inputs and outputs to help the AI understand your exact needs

  • Iterate in conversation: Ask the AI to modify the suggestion before building if something doesn't look right

  • Test thoroughly: Always test the built flow with real inputs to ensure it works as expected

Important considerations

  • Editing existing flows: If you open the AI Flow Builder while editing an existing flow, the AI may modify your current work. Save your progress before using the AI builder

  • Complex workflows: For very complex workflows, you may need to manually refine the AI-built flow after creation

  • Conversation continuity: Keep your conversation focused on one flow at a time for best results
