Before You Start

Only Members, Creators and Admins can build new agents from templates. Users listed as Consumers cannot.

What Are Agent Templates?

elvex provides pre-built agent templates that can be found on the Template page using the left sidebar. They serve as starting points for common use cases. These templates include:

  • Pre-written rules and context for specific tasks

  • Suggested datasource connections

  • Example prompts and welcome messages

  • Optimized settings for different business scenarios

Step 1: Connect Your Datasources

  1. Scroll to the Context & Datasources section

  2. Review suggested datasources: Templates often recommend specific types of data connections

  3. Connect your own datasources:

    • Click Add Datasource

    • Select relevant datasources from your company's available options

    • Choose datasources that contain information relevant to the template's purpose

Example: If using a customer service template, connect datasources containing your product documentation, FAQ, or support procedures.

Step 2: Customize the Template

Adjust the Rules

In the Rules section, review the pre-written guidelines and modify them to match your goals.

Update the Context

In the Context section, decide whether to check or uncheck Enable User Context.

Set Welcome Message

In the Conversation Introduction section:

  • Customize the Welcome Message to reflect your brand voice

  • Update Example Tasks with relevant prompts for your use case

Configure AI Provider and Model

  1. Scroll to the Advanced section

  2. Select your AI Provider:

    • Choose from available providers

    • If the template requires a specific provider that your company doesn't have, don't worry, choose one available to you.

Set Permissions

  1. In the Security & Permissions section:

  2. Choose visibility:

    • Private: Only you and people you specifically share with can access

    • Public: Anyone in your company can discover and use the agent

  3. Add specific users if needed:

    • Click Add User

    • Assign Viewer (can use the agent) or Editor (can modify the agent) roles

Step 3: Test Your Agent

  1. Click Save and Publish to create your agent

  2. Start a test conversation:

    • Click the message icon next to your new agent

    • Try one of the example tasks from the template

    • Ask a question relevant to your connected datasources

  3. Verify the agent works correctly:

    • Does it follow the rules you set?

    • Does it access information from your datasources?

    • Does the tone and style match your expectations?

Troubleshooting Common Issues

My Company Doesn't Have the Suggested AI Provider

If a template requires an AI provider your company hasn't set up:

  1. Try a different model:

    • Go to Advanced settings

    • Select an available AI provider from your company's options

    • Choose a comparable model (e.g., if template uses Claude 4.5 Sonnet, try GPT-5.2)

  2. Test thoroughly: Different models may behave differently, so test your agent carefully

Template Isn't Working as Expected

  1. Ask the agent: Ask the agent what would need to change with its rules or available data sources to successfully complete your task. It will most likely give you a direct answer!

  2. Check your datasources: Ensure they contain relevant information

  3. Review the rules: Make sure they're specific enough for your use case

  4. Test with different prompts: Try various ways of asking the same question
